Movies based on TV shows...
With the Arrested Development movie (hopefully) coming within the next couple of years, I was wondering about the quality of TV show based movies... do they often live up to the original series?

I thought that Simpsons Movie, The was very comparable in quality to the series. Any others?

Serenity, based on the Firefly TV show
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me
Mission: Impossible, and the two sequels. The sequels are bad though.
X-Files: Fight the Future, The and X-Files: I Want to Believe, The are alright.
Also, I believe Blues Brothers, The was an old TV series.
Futurama: Bender's Big Score and the three other Futurama movies are a par with the cartoons.
I think there's also two or three MacGyver movies in existence. MacGyver: Lost Treasure of Atlantis is one of them. They're pretty similar to the series -- haven't seen those in a long time though.

Sex and the City is supposed to be good, if you're into that sort of thing...

The Addams Family really takes the cake in this category, in my opinion. It's my favorite comedy.

Aside from that, though, I can't think of any other tv-based movie that trumped the show, for me.

Serenity is by far one of the best.
And the new Star Trek was suprisingly good and the Stargate movies if you liked the series.
